The first time I can remember praying was with my mother at my bedside as a child. She said it was a good habit to get into and she was right. Praying set my mind at ease so I could experience a restful nights’ sleep. I find prayer helps me whenever I need assistance in solving a problem or settling my nerves from a stressful situation. I believe that God is with me and I realize I am not alone in solving my situation.
I would pray these words; “Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep. If I should die before I wake, I pray the Lord my soul to take. God bless mom and dad, my brothers (and anyone else who was on my mind that night). In Jesus Name, Amen.”
Then off to sleep I would drift. Things were simpler back then I tell myself today. The truth is, life is as hard as we make it. We have to turn the volume knobs of life down sometimes and give our worries and concerns to God. I find that prayer is a window to hope.
In the Gospel according to Luke we read, 12:25 Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life? 26 Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest? Worried about how you will make ends meet this month – give it to God in prayer. Worried about a test result in school or from the doctor – give it to God in prayer. Struggling with anxiety – give it to God in prayer. He will listen and put people in your path to help you or send you the answers you need.
Tonight, before you lay your head down on the pillow for some sleep remember to let go and let God handle your worries. He created this world, the heavens and all of us, I think He can handle any challenges you send His way.
God bless you and keep you,
