One of my favorite hymns is, Here I Am Lord. I remember standing with my classmates at Asbury Theological Seminary at a graduation ceremony and they played this beautiful hymn about serving God. Here is the first verse and chorus;
I the lord of sea and sky, I have heard my people cry
All who dwell in dark and sin, My hand will save
I have made the stars of night, I will make their darkness bright
Who will bear my light to them? Whom shall i send?
Chorus
Here I am Lord, Is it I Lord?
I have heard You calling in the night
I will go Lord, If You lead me
I will hold, your people in my heart
The tears were rolling down my face as I sang those words, feeling the call to ordained ministry so strongly in my heart. Fast forward to today, every time I think about that day, I still feel the same way. And I believe that God is calling every Christian to service in His church and community.
As members and attendees of First United Methodist Church of Clewiston, we share in the same covenant to offer gifts of extravagant generosity; nurture intentional faith development; to plan and share in passionate worship; extending radical hospitality to our neighbors; and last, but certainly not least, participate in risk-taking mission and service.
We may not feel led to travel to Indonesia on a mission trip or be a youth pastor or choir director, but God utilizes the whole body of Christ to fulfill her mission. Where is God calling you to serve today? How will you step out of your comfort zone and serve in God’s church and be a light for Jesus in the world?
We invite you to say yes to serving on one of these three teams; Staff Parish Relations (helping with the Human Resources aspects of the Church) – Trustees (helping with maintenance of the Church) – Finance (helping with the accountability and finances the church needs to sustain its mission). OR God may lead you to serve in a completely different area such as Children’s Ministry or Youth Ministry.
Whom Shall I Send?… God Asks. Are you ready to say…Send Me Lord.
God bless you and keep you,
Pastor Jeff
